Who We Are
Rich Welsh has assisted individuals and companies with their financial goals for over forty-five years. He established Welsh Capital Planning in 1971 and has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™practitioner since 1977. He has conducted workshops and seminars nationally on Financial and Estate Planning and has taught at Real Estate Schools in the Houston area.
“I feel my ability to take an intimidating subject and present it in an interesting and beneficial way has helped individuals view financial planning in a new light as they take steps towards achieving their financial goals,” he explains. Rich feels the most significant change to the financial services industry in the past 35 years is going from a product-oriented business to a service-oriented business. With a “user-friendly” approach, he offers clients ideas on their overall financial goals and works with them on how to best reach them and helps ensure that all areas of their financial picture – Retirement income, IRA Distributions, Investments, Income Taxes, Estate Planning, and Insurance – are properly coordinated and working correctly.
Over his career, Rich has been interviewed and quoted in various publications including The Houston Business Journal, Houston Post, Money Magazine, and The Financial Planner Magazine. Also, He has been a guest on several radio and television talk shows.
Rich is a Registered Representative with SagePoint Financial, Inc., a registered broker-dealer and member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). He joined SagePoint in April 1971. In 2000, Rich was the recipient of their Lifetime Achievement Award1, which recognizes representatives who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to building and growing their business and genuine desire to assist in the success of others.
Rich is married to Betty and between them they have four children and six grandchildren. A longtime resident of Houston and previously in the U.S. Air Force for over eight years, Rich attained the rank of Captain and flew the F-101B Interceptor. He still flies and as sponsor of a WWII BT-13A Trainer with the Commemorative Air Force flies in several air shows each year. He also owns his own aircraft and in addition to personal enjoyment, uses it to raise money for several charitable events each year. Rich speaks on aviation history to various youth groups and veterans organizations. He was also honored to serve on a church board over a several year period.
